Experts Sonawane to shape Indo-Pacific region peace and security agenda

New Delhi : New Delhi, February 11, 2025 – The Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) meeting for the upcoming International Conference on Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific Region was successfully held at the India International Centre (IIC). The meeting brought together esteemed diplomats, academic experts, and dignitaries to deliberate on strategies for fostering regional stability and security.

The preparations for the Indo-Pacific Peace and Security Conference began on February 11, 2025, at the India International Centre Kamaladevi Complex, New Delhi. The Advisory Committee of the Indo-Pacific Peace Forum came together to discuss multiple issues of great significance to the peace and security of the Indo-Pacific region. The event was graced by the presence of eminent speakers, including Dr. Markandey Rai, Chairman of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF) India; Priyaranjan Trivedi, Chancellor of Universities; Mr. Ram Rohan Panta, Regional Representative for South Asia, Global Peace Foundation; Amb. Shashank, Former Foreign Secretary of India and Former Ambassador to Denmark, South Korea, and Libya; Amb. Virendra Gupta, Former High Commissioner of India to South Africa; Prof. Ajay Kumar Dubey, Professor at the School of International Studies; Dr. Virendra K. Goswami, Former Vice-Chancellor & Wing Commander and President of the Environment & Peace Foundation; Shri Sanjay Bhalla, Vice-President of ARSP; Dr. Gaurav Gupta, Founder President of the Global Trade & Technology Council (India) and GTTCI Trade Chamber; Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden, Secretary General of the International Buddhist Confederation; and Maj. Gen. Pramod Saighal (Retd.), Former Head of Army Air Defence College.

Dr. Markandey Rai emphasized the critical importance of cooperation and dialogue in maintaining peace in the Indo-Pacific region. A significant highlight of the event was the launch of the book Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific Region: Shaping Stability, which explores key geopolitical and security challenges in the region, as well as India’s role in mitigating tensions.

The meeting also witnessed the adoption of several recommendations concerning vital issues for the development of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific. These will serve as the foundation for the upcoming International Conference on Peace and Security in the Indo-Pacific Region, scheduled for March 19-20, 2025. This conference is poised to bring the world’s attention to the Indo-Pacific region, one of the most dynamic and strategically important areas globally. The discussions were timely, reflecting the urgent need for solutions to foster peace and stability in this critical region.

The discussions during the meeting focused on key themes, including conflict prevention, diplomatic engagement, and India’s pivotal role in promoting a peaceful and cooperative regional environment. The Prep-Com meeting laid a strong foundation for the forthcoming International Conference, which will bring together global thought leaders, policymakers, and scholars to continue these discussions and develop actionable solutions. The event highlighted the importance of timely, collaborative efforts to ensure the region’s future peace and security in the context of shifting global dynamics.
