New Delhi : On the occasion world press Freedom Day, the Bharatiya Shramjeevi Patrakar Sangh (BSPS) hosted a significant event at a press club, featuring Justice Sudhir Agarwal, former judge of the Allahabad High Court and member of National Green Tribunal, as the chief guest, and BSPS President Sanjay Singh. The event highlighted critical issues hindering India’s development and the role of a responsible press in addressing them.Justice Sudhir Agarwal emphasized that India cannot become a developed nation until every citizen has access to fundamental education, healthcare, employment, and justice. Speaking at the event, he stated, “Seventy-seven years after independence, development remains a distant dream if basic necessities like education, healthcare, employment, and justice are not ensured for all.” Reflecting on his tenure at the Supreme Court in Uttarakhand and the Allahabad High Court—where he sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment for a 42-year-old crime—Agarwal pointed out systemic delays in justice delivery and the lack of quality education and employment opportunities for many. He urged the government to take responsibility and bridge these gaps to achieve true development.
Adding to the discussion, BSPS President Sanjay Singh underscored the press’s role in this journey, advocating for its freedom to report truth and facts. He stated, “The press must be free to present facts, highlight right from wrong, and inform the public, but it should not become a platform for individual opinions or biases. Our duty is to serve the public with accurate and objective information.” Singh’s remarks reflected BSPS’s commitment to ethical journalism as a pillar of democracy. The event concluded with a unified call to action for the government, citizens, and media to work together in addressing these challenges, ensuring inclusive development and a responsible press to guide India toward becoming a truly developed nation.
